Kayan: "How is life in the Village?"

How's Life in the Village?" Many people ask me about my life in the village, and now I'll tell you about it.

My name is Kayan, and I'm 11 years old. I live in Irbid Children's Village with my wonderful Mama Jowaida and my siblings. This year, I started fifth grade, and guess what? My grades are at 98.8! I'm one of the top students in my class, and at home, I help my siblings with their schoolwork. After school, every day, my siblings and I sit down together to do our homework. Once we finish, we play with Lego and watch our favorite cartoons. Plus, I make sure to teach my siblings a new chess move every day because I'm kind of a chess whiz.

Now, when people ask me what I love most about living here in the village, it's a tough one to answer. There are just so many things I adore. Of course, I love my Mama and all my siblings. I also have some great friends in the village, Rashid and Saif. Playing with Uncle Bashar is a real treat because he's the one teaching me chess, and he tells me I could become a real chess pro with enough practice. And boy, do I have a blast playing football with Uncle Obada! He helps me train, and I'm getting pretty good at pulling off some cool moves with the ball. Oh, and the best part of the week? Movie night! On weekends, we gather the cushions, my siblings, and I, and Mama whips up some popcorn and sweets. We all settle in and watch a movie together.

I've got a couple of cool skills too! I'm actually a pretty good swimmer, and I'm learning kung fu. Coach Qusay is teaching us how to defend ourselves, and he even told Mama how impressed he is with my skills. And you know what? I love reading books a lot! I enjoy reading stories, especially before bedtime. I usually finish two or three stories almost every day. During school breaks, I read 180 stories in just three months, and I even won first place in the library pioneers' competition. When I reach twelfth grade, I plan to aim for top grades because my dream is to study medicine and become a doctor. I want to help people in need. My brother Abdul Ghani has big dreams too. He wants to become an engineer and build a big and beautiful house for our family, including Mama and me. I even have plans to run a farm in it, raising animals like chickens and horses.

Family means the world to me. My brother and my buddy, Abdul Ghani, is my confidant, and he always has my back. I like to show my younger brother, Aous, about colors, letters, and numbers in English. I also lend a hand to Maha and Abdul Rahman with their learning, and we often have fun together. We even make up stories using our stuffed animals as characters. And you know what? My brothers and sisters in the youth houses haven't forgotten about me either. There's Addi, Nidal, and Lana. I still chat with them and see how they're doing. Addi even lets me play with his phone and wear his cool watch. I love to ask my sister Lana about twelfth grade and her studying routine. It's fantastic staying in touch with them and hearing about their lives, where they live now, and what they're up to.

Lastly, I want to express my love for my home here in the village and all the wonderful people in it. I'm always happy here because everyone cares about me, and I love them right back.
