My name is Khitam, and I serve as a mother at Amman Children's Village. I have dedicated 15 years of my life to this village, initially joining as a caregiver for the children, a role I fulfilled for five years.
As a mother, my life revolves around my children, and we live together as a close-knit family within the village. To date, I have proudly witnessed seven young adults successfully graduate from my care and establish their own paths in life. Currently, I am nurturing and guiding two sons and two daughters under my loving care, with the goal of helping them grow, learn, and integrate into society.
I'd like to share how we spend our time in the village during the holy month of Ramadan, especially given the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In these times, we experience a blend of joy and difficulty. The situation is far from what it used to be, and our outings are limited, necessitating extra caution.
The village administration has been instrumental in raising our awareness about COVID-19. They have provided guidance on how to navigate this crisis and have ensured that we have all the necessary supplies. We have received thorough training on the subject, and I have taken it upon myself to educate my children about the importance of hygiene and sanitization.
My role extends beyond providing essential care; I am also a friend and confidant to my children. We engage in meaningful conversations, I assist them with their studies, and I always make time to listen to their thoughts and concerns. Given the current circumstances and the imposed curfew, we spend more time together than ever before. We come together to prepare our Ramadan iftar, study, and take remote exams.
The present situation demands patience and vigilance. We must ensure that our children feel safe and secure while imparting knowledge about preventive measures. I am grateful that I can be with my children during this time, as it would be distressing to be away from them and stuck elsewhere due to travel restrictions.
I want to express my deep appreciation for all the mothers who are tirelessly caring for their children during these challenging times. May we find the strength to continue our mission with unwavering love and compassion, guiding these children toward a secure future, relying on their resilience and determination in life.
