Children’s Villages Jordan Organises Recreational Trip to Salt for Children and Families from its Gaza Project
Children’s Villages Jordan organized a recreational trip to the city of Salt as part of its Gaza Project, bringing together 13 families from Gaza and their children. The trip aimed to provide an opportunity to explore the city’s history and cultural heritage while enjoying a day of recreational activities that brought children and families together in an atmosphere of interaction and connection.
Held under the patronage of Eng. Mustafa AlWishah, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Children’s Villages Jordan, the visit began with a reception at the Salt Development Foundation. The children, families and Association representatives were welcomed by Mr Khaldoun Khreisat, Director General of the Foundation, alongside Mr Amin Arabiyat, Director of the Jordanian Society for the Preservation of Heritage, and Mr Mahmoud Arabiyat, Director of Tourism for Balqa Governorate, as well as several heads of cultural organizations, cultural representatives and social activists from the governorate.
Representing Children’s Villages Jordan were Board Members Dr Mahmoud Al Massad, Ms Fatneh Abu Jaber, Dr Thoqan Obeidat, Dr Munther Al Sourani and Eng. Khader Al Balha, in addition to Dr Atef Kanaan, a member of the General Assembly. His Excellency Dr Fayez Al Saudi, Dr Mohammad Al Qudah, and several Association directors and staff members also took part in the visit.
The programme began with a tour of a photographic exhibition documenting aspects of Salt’s history, followed by a walking tour of several heritage sites, including Al Baladiya Street and the Latin Church. Participants were introduced to the city’s history and distinctive architectural and cultural features.
The tour continued along the historic Hammam Street and through Al Ain Square, followed by a visit to the Salt Museum (Abu Jaber House), where the children and families learned more about the city’s history, social life and cultural heritage.
The visit concluded with a lunch hosted by Mr Khaldoun Khreisat and Ms Nujood Khreisat for the children, families and representatives of SOS Children’s Villages Jordan at Balkoonat Al Madina, a heritage restaurant on Al Khader Street. The gathering featured a brief presentation on the city’s heritage, a traditional folklore performance and a rababa musical performance.
Participants then visited a scenic viewpoint overlooking some of Salt’s most prominent landmarks, including the neighboring Grand Mosque of Salt and Good Shepherd Church, reflecting the city’s distinctive religious and cultural diversity and its tradition of coexistence.
The trip forms part of the recreational activities delivered through the Gaza Project at Children’s Villages Jordan for children from Gaza and their families.
These activities aim to create opportunities for interaction and enjoyment while enabling participants to discover Jordan’s cultural and heritage sites.
Looking ahead, Children’s Villages Jordan and the Salt Development Foundation aim to strengthen their cooperation through joint environmental and awareness-raising initiatives that support children, young people and members of the local community.
Planned areas of cooperation include tree-planting, cleaning and recycling campaigns; awareness programmes on the risks of drug use; and support for educational and community development initiatives. Both parties affirmed that coordinated efforts can contribute to sustainable social and environmental impact in the city of Salt.
