Safe Housing and Holistic Support for Mothers and Children from Gaza in Jordan

Safe Housing and Holistic Support for Mothers and Children from Gaza in Jordan

In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Jordan’s national commitment to host 2,000 children for medical treatment, SOS Children’s Villages Jordan has launched the "Temporary Housing and Holistic Support for Mothers and Children from Gaza" project.

This initiative aims to provide safe, family-like, temporary accommodation for children and caregivers (primarily mothers) who have been displaced to Jordan for urgent medical care. Many of these children suffer from severe injuries, including limb loss, as well as chronic illnesses, arriving in a fragile physical and emotional state.

Currently implemented in Amman, the project provides an integrated package of care that includes safe shelter, food, and transportation, in addition to specialized mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) through individual art and play therapy sessions. The project also ensures full coordination with hospitals and medical appointments to guarantee continuity of care, including support for children after receiving prosthetic limbs, helping them adapt and regain confidence in themselves. Alongside this, educational and recreational activities help restore hope and create a sense of safety and stability.

Safe Homes

The Safe Homes:

Implemented by SOS Children’s Villages Jordan in partnership with DAI and funded by the United States Government, the “Breaking the Cycle of Violence” project provides comprehensive, survivor-centered support to women and girls affected by or at risk of gender-based violence in Jordan.

Through the Safe Homes model in Amman and Irbid, the project offers 24/7 safe shelter, case management, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), legal aid, healthcare, and livelihood services. It ensures a dignified and empowering environment where survivors and their children can rebuild their lives.

The project also strengthens the capacity of frontline staff, enhances coordination with national protection systems, and promotes sustainable service delivery. By addressing critical gaps in GBV response, the project contributes to ensuring survivors’ safety, well-being, and long-term independence.

Climate Champions Project

Eco Champions: Youth-Led Climate Action & Advocacy

The "Eco Champions" project empowers young climate activists, particularly young women and youth in vulnerable positions, to lead the climate agenda. The project provides essential seed funding for youth-led climate initiatives and offers intensive training in developing climate position papers. Participants gain the opportunity to attend the project’s high-level summit and represent youth voices in local, regional, and international climate forums. By fostering inclusive and gender-responsive action, Eco Champions equips youth with the necessary tools, mentoring, and leadership skills to drive systemic change. The project effectively bridges the gap between grassroots communities and global decision-makers, ensuring young leaders are central to climate resilience and policy-making processes worldwide.

Climate Education Project

Climate Education

This project focuses on institutionalizing environmental awareness by developing climate-integrated curricula and providing comprehensive training for teachers. A core component is the creation of a specialized supportive guide for environmental education, designed to enhance pedagogical approaches in schools. The project goes beyond classroom learning by providing direct support for child-led climate initiatives and ensuring their active participation in environmental conferences.

As part of its innovative approaches, the project is currently training a group of teachers on the use of Minecraft to implement interactive, student-centered activities that promote environmental awareness in engaging and practical ways.

By empowering children to take the lead, the project fosters a generation that is not only environmentally literate but also capable of advocating for their future. This collaboration between the Ministry of Education and SOS Children's Villages aims to create a sustainable educational ecosystem that prioritizes climate action from an early age.

Global Scholarship Program

The Global Scholarship Program

The Global Scholarship Program (GSP) is a flagship initiative under Children’s Villages Worldwide, dedicated to expanding access to equitable, high-quality education for disadvantaged youth. The Program adopts a comprehensive, holistic approach that goes beyond financial support, covering tuition and living expenses while also providing mentoring, psychosocial support, and career guidance.

Child and Youth Safeguarding and Protection

GSP Jordan Hub

The GSP Jordan Hub supports youth from SOS Children’s Villages and refugees from Arabic-speaking countries across the MENA region, enabling them to pursue higher education and successfully transition toward economic independence.

Through strategic partnerships with leading universities in Jordan, the Program provides scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. In addition to financial assistance, GSP delivers tailored, holistic support that addresses students’ diverse needs, including academic advising, psychosocial support, and capacity-building opportunities.
