SOS Children’s Villages Jordan Launches the Practical Phase of the Environmental Innovation Incubator Project for Furniture Recy

SOS Children’s Village Irbid, one of the villages affiliated with SOS Children’s Villages Jordan, has launched the practical phase of the Environmental Innovation Incubator project for furniture recycling. The project aims to empower youth, enhance their skills in craftsmanship and environmental creativity, and integrate sustainability with economic empowerment.

As part of the project, young people under the association’s care in Irbid are participating alongside a specialized carpentry trainer. They are working on cleaning and preparing used wood from old furniture for the production of new, small furniture pieces, using environmentally friendly tools and techniques, with a strong emphasis on occupational safety when handling materials and equipment.

At a later stage, these pieces will be decorated using decoupage techniques as part of the aesthetic design phase, adding artistic touches that reflect creativity and transform old materials into usable products. This contributes to promoting a culture of sustainability and recycling within the local community.

This project is one of the activities under the Environmental Innovation Incubator at SOS Children’s Villages Jordan, which seeks to foster innovation among youth and encourage them to develop creative and sustainable solutions by combining practical skills with creative thinking—reinforcing the concept of “green villages” and transforming consumed resources into educational and economic opportunities.

Project organizers emphasized that the initiative aims not only to build young people’s skills but also to raise environmental awareness within the community, encouraging children and families to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives, thereby contributing to environmental protection and strengthening a culture of social responsibility.
