SOS Children's Villages Jordan is a national non-profit organization established in 1983 to provide alternative care for children and youth who lack parental care or are at risk of losing it. Position Summary:
The Clinical Psychologist ensures that survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in Amman Irbid and Aqaba SOS villages receive comprehensive, trauma-informed mental health services. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, evidence-based family, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, soft skills training, positive parenting and psychoeducation, while also building the capacity of residential staff to provide sensitive, survivor-centered support. The Psychologist works closely with other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to recovery, safety, and empowerment.
Key Duties, Responsibilities
Psychological Assessment and Treatment
Conduct psychological screening and assessments within 72 hours of resident intake.
Develop individualized treatment plans for 100% of residents
Deliver individual, family and group therapy sessions, for both survivors and children using evidence-based trauma interventions (CBT, EMDR, etc.).
Review treatment progress for each case
· Conduct psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and clinical interviews to identify mental health issues.
· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to clients’ needs.
· Provide evidence-based psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, or groups.
· Monitor and evaluate client progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
· Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
· Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, physicians, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure holistic care.
· Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and professional development activities.
· Stay updated with current research, therapeutic approaches, and best practices in clinical psychology.
Crisis Intervention
Respond to all urgent psychological distress cases.
Provide immediate safety and stabilization measures for acute cases.
Offer crisis intervention and risk assessments when necessary
Group Therapy and Psychoeducation
Facilitate at least group sessions covering topics such as coping strategies, self-esteem, and post-trauma recovery.
Conduct psychoeducation sessions on mental health awareness, positive parenting, or stress management.
Providing marriage counselling when needed
· Educate clients and families about psychological conditions and coping strategies.
Capacity Building for Staff
Deliver quarterly training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma-informed care, and managing disclosures.
Provide monthly debriefing sessions for staff to address secondary trauma and burnout.
Coordination and Referral
Attend 100% of scheduled case conferences with social workers, medical teams, and legal advisors.
Refer all cases requiring psychiatric intervention, reproductive health, and health screening for both mothers and children.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain 100% compliance in completing clinical notes.
Submit monthly mental health service reports to the GBV Program Manager.
Monitor trends in resident mental health and provide quarterly recommendations for program improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree or higher in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) with valid professional license to practice in [country].
Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience, ideally with GBV survivors or trauma-affected populations.
Proven knowledge of trauma-informed therapeutic approaches and ethical guidelines.
Experience in humanitarian or shelter-based contexts is highly desirable.
