Job Title: Youth Care Worker – Male/Female (Care Provider)
Reports to: Local Youth Coordinator
Employment Type: Full-time
Nature of Work: This position requires residing and staying overnight in the Youth House according to the approved shift system and work schedule, including some weekends, public holidays, and religious holidays as required.
Who We Are
SOS Children’s Villages Jordan is a national non-profit organization established in 1983 to provide alternative care for children and young people who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it.
What distinguishes our care model is the provision of holistic care that addresses the needs of children and young people across areas including care, accommodation, education, skills development, protection, social integration, health, livelihoods, and social and emotional well-being.
The Association is guided by the United Nations Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Its efforts are also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive care, guidance, and support to young people, particularly those aged 14 years and above, within a safe, supportive, and family-like environment, helping them develop life skills, build self-confidence and independence, and successfully prepare for adulthood and independent living.
The role requires the Youth Care Worker to be physically present with the young people in the Youth House, including residing and staying overnight according to the shift system, to ensure continuity of care, support, and supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Care and Support
- Provide daily care, supervision, and support to young people in the Youth House.
- Build positive relationships based on trust and respect and serve as a positive role model.
- Provide individual guidance and support for young people’s emotional, social, personal, and professional development.
- Monitor the needs of young people and any behavioral, social, or psychological changes, and coordinate with specialists when needed.
- Support young people in dealing with personal and social challenges and difficulties in a positive and safe manner.
Independent Living Skills Development
- Support young people in developing daily living skills, including decision-making, budgeting, household management, and taking responsibility.
- Encourage young people to participate in managing the household, setting house rules, and taking responsibility for daily routines.
- Support young people in preparing for independent living and taking on future responsibilities.
- Promote self-confidence, self-reliance, and participation in decision-making.
Educational and Career Support
- Support young people in identifying their strengths, skills, interests, and future aspirations.
- Support their educational and career pathways, including enrollment in educational institutions and searching for employment opportunities.
- Contribute to developing job-readiness skills and professional behavior.
- Support young people in planning for their academic and professional futures.
Youth House Management
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and supportive home environment.
- Manage and monitor the monthly household budget and financial resources responsibly and in accordance with approved procedures.
- Encourage young people to participate in managing household affairs and taking on daily responsibilities.
- Reside and stay overnight in the Youth House according to the shift schedule, including weekends and public holidays as required.
Child and Youth Protection and Psychosocial Support
- Provide a safe and protective environment for young people.
- Identify behavioral or emotional concerns and refer them to relevant specialists when needed.
- Promote mental health awareness and the prevention of risky behaviors.
- Fully comply with child safeguarding policies and procedures and immediately report any concerns related to the safety or well-being of children and young people.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Work closely with social workers, psychologists, education and activities coordinators, youth coordinators, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in case meetings and individual development planning for young people.
- Participate in meetings, training, performance reviews, and various activities.
- Support positive communication with biological families, where appropriate.
- Promote young people’s participation in the community, volunteering, and community activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Education, or another relevant field.
- At least two years of experience working with children or young people, preferably in care or youth development.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships and provide guidance and support to adolescents and young people.
- Good communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Fluency in Arabic and a good level of English.
- Ability to deal with different situations with patience, flexibility, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Commitment to child safeguarding, equality, inclusion, and diversity principles.
- Willingness to reside and stay overnight in the Youth House and work according to a shift system, including some weekends and public holidays, based on operational needs.

Recruitment and Selection Process
The recruitment process will include the following stages:
Initial Interview
An interview with the SOS Children’s Villages Jordan team to assess the candidate’s experience, skills, and suitability for the position.
Psychological Interview
An interview with a psychologist to assess the candidate’s readiness and ability to work with children and young people and to manage the requirements of the role.
Training Period
Candidates who successfully pass the selection stages will undergo a three-month training period, during which they will receive a monthly training allowance of JOD 300.
Appointment
Upon successfully completing the training period and meeting the position requirements, the candidate will be appointed at a monthly basic salary of JOD 550, in addition to Social Security, health insurance, and a 13th-month salary, in accordance with the Association’s policies.
